Tour itinerary
1. Day: Arrival – Durres
Flight to Tirana, welcoming by our tour guide at the airport and transfer to our hotel in Durres. Dinner and overnight.
2. Day: Durrës - Berat - Apollonia - Vlora
In the morning drive to Berat. The town of 1,000 windows - as Berat is also called - and its fortress, which is still inhabited today, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then on to the excavations of Apollonia. More than 2,500 years ago the Greeks established a colony here in honor of Apollo. After the tour we continue to our hotel in Vlora. Dinner and overnight.
3. Day: Vlora - Llogara Nationalpark - Saranda
Today we leave Vlora and drive north along the picturesque coastal road along the Albanian Riviera. Unique nature awaits us in Llogara National Park. Next stop is Himara - a true jewel of southern Albania. Here we have some free time to enjoy the great beach promenade! On the peninsula of Porto Palermo, we take a photo stop to photograph the massive triangular fort of Ali Pasha. In the evening we reach Saranda, where dinner and overnight stay will take place.
4. Day: Saranda – Butrint – Ksamil - Saranda
In the morning drive to Butrint - also UNESCO World Heritage Site. During excavations many antique buildings have been discovered here. Parts of them are still amazingly well preserved. A beautiful, colorful mosaic in the baptistery shows two peacocks and a vase with grapes. On the way back to Saranda we stop in Ksamil and admire the so-called "Blue Eye". Hotel in Saranda. Dinner and overnight.
5. Day: Saranda – Gjirokaster – Korca
In the morning drive to Gjirokaster, also UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the way we visit the monastery of Mesopotam. The city is also called "City of Stones", we visit the fortress and if you feel like it, you can also visit the only weapons museum in Albania. Afterwards we continue through the mountains of Albania to Korca and move into our hotel. Dinner and overnight.
6. Day: Korca – Ohrid
In the morning visit of Korca, afterwards our way leads to the Macedonian border and the famous Ohrid lake. The lake is the oldest and deepest lake in Europe. The town and the lake are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. On the way to the UNESCO city we visit the monastery St. Naum, embedded in unique nature. Not only the monastery is located here, but also the springs of Lake Ohrid, which we will explore during a rowboat trip. Afterwards drive to our hotel in Ohrid. Dinner and overnight.
7. Day: Ohrid – Elbasan – Durres
This morning is dedicated to the UNESCO city of Ohrid. We start our day with a small boat trip on the lake and let the flair of the city affect us from the water. Afterwards we explore the city on foot and see the fortress of King Samuel as well as some of the city's estimated 365 churches - Ohrid is not called the Jerusalem of the Balkans for nothing. In the afternoon we return to Albania, along the old Roman road "Via Ignatia" we reach the city of Elbasan. After a short sightseeing tour, we go back to the coast. Durres, the largest port city in Albania, is already waiting for your visit. In the 2nd century B.C. the largest amphitheater of the Balkan Peninsula was built here. After our detailed sightseeing we move back to our hotel in Durres. Dinner and overnight.
8. Day: Durres - Kruja – Tirana – Durres
Drive to Kruje, the town of the national hero Skanderbeg. We see the impressive fortress and the old town with the oriental looking bazaar. Afterwards further to Tirana. Extensive sightseeing, we will see Skanderbeg Square with its magnificent Italian buildings and the former official residence of Enver Hoxha. Return to our hotel in Durres in the evening. Dinner and overnight.
9. Day: Departure
Transfer to the airport and departure.
